Welcome to Autumn 1
We hope you had a wonderful and restful summer break. We are excited for another term filled with enriching opportunities for your children to enjoy and enhance their learning.
Important Dates
- Sweet Treat Friday — The PTA are back in the main playground with a delicious selection of sweet treats! Come over, grab yourself a little Friday treat and support our school at the same time! 💙
- After school clubs to begin. — After school clubs begin this week.
- Appledore Book Festival - Kieran Larwood visit. — Kieran Larwood will be visiting our classes for an engaging session linked to his incredible book series Podkin One-Ear.
- Burton Art Gallery — Children will explore the different mediums that artists use to create their art and use objects in the gallery to practice their still life sketching.
- Geography Fieldwork — This week, we will be exploring the woodland biome in our local area. Please ensure the children have suitable footwear (wellies or trainers and a raincoat) for the week. These can be left in school to allow us to work around the weather.
- Poetry performance to parents — Year 4 would like to invite you to come in and watch our performance of two poems; Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll and Don't by Michael Rosen. Please arrive at reception for 3pm.
- Egyptian Day — An exciting day where the children will be immersed in Ancient Egyptian history. They will learn the steps of mummification; uncover artefacts from the Ancient Egyptian tombs and make their very own cartouche to take home. To truly immerse themselves, we invite the children to come in dressed up as an Egyptian for the day.
- School Photo Day — Tempest Photography are in school for the annual school photos.The good news? They'll look adorable. The bad news? Your wallet might need a little lie-down afterwards. Please make sure children arrive with their best smiles at the ready.

KS2 Halloween Discos
Book now (Closes Friday 16th)
Calling all witches, wizards and magical mischief-makers! The East-the-Water Halloween Disco is back, and we're bringing a little Hogwarts magic to our KS2 party.
When is it? Year 3 / Year 4: 3:30pm–4:30pm and Year 5 / Year 6: 4:45pm–5:45pm
Drop-off & collection: Years 3 & 4: Children will go straight from their classrooms to the disco at the end of the school day. Please collect them at 4:30pm from their classroom. Years 5 & 6: Please drop off and collect your child at the main school entrance. Collection is at 5:45pm.
Honeydukes Tuck Shop: Every child will receive 2 Galleons to spend on snacks at our Honeydukes Tuck Shop. Their Galleons are included in the ticket price, so there's no need to send extra money.
Feeling thirsty after all that dancing? There's free, unlimited Polyjuice Potion (squash) available throughout the disco.
Fancy dress & prizes: Fancy dress is welcome but entirely optional. Whether you arrive as a Hogwarts student, a dark wizard, a magical creature or just yourself, you're very much welcome. We'll be awarding prizes for Best Dancer and Best Dressed. So, if you've been secretly practising your moves in the kitchen, now's your time to shine!
We look forward to seeing you there for a spooktacular KS2 disco.

The Legend of Podkin One-Ear
This is the first in a series by Kieran Larwood (who is visiting the children this term). A thrilling adventure story about Podkin, who will one day be responsible for protecting his warren against the Gorm. That day comes sooner than he thinks when the Gorm go on a rampage and destroy his home. He must do everything he can to protect his family.

PE Information

Please ensure children have their full PE kits in everyday. If your child is swimming, they will need: towel, swimming hat, goggles (optional) and underwear. Children should come to school with their swimwear on underneath their uniform.
